Privacy notice

This notice describes what this site does with its visitors’ data. It is written from the site’s code and changes with it.
Data controller
The data controller is Emanuele Frascella, software engineer, Taranto (Italy), VAT no. 03462650734. The site is run by a single natural person. Requests about this notice can be sent to emanuele@frascella.dev or through the contact form.
The contact form
The «contact» form collects name, email address and message, which are required, and the company name, which is optional. With them the site records the date and time of sending, the language of the page and the address of the page it was sent from.
- Purpose and legal basis: replying to the message and, where relevant, preparing a quote; pre-contractual measures taken at the data subject’s request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). No consent is required.
- Where: in the site’s database, on the server that hosts it. A copy of the message is sent by email to the controller’s address, emanuele@frascella.dev.
- Who reads it: the controller only.
- How long: the message and the data that come with it are deleted automatically after 12 months; the copy of the notification email kept in the site’s sending log after 90 days. They can be deleted earlier on request.
- The site sends no automatic email to the sender: the reply is written by the controller.
To protect the form from automated submissions the site uses a hidden field, a check on the time taken to fill it in and a limit on the number of submissions. The limit is based on the IP address, which is never stored: it is turned into a code (a hash with a key that changes every day) kept for one hour at most. To avoid duplicates, a second message from the same email address within the following 15 minutes is not accepted.
The vinyl crackle
The sound of the record player on the desk («audio on / off») is generated by the browser, on the spot: the site downloads no audio file, records nothing and receives nothing.
Statistics
The site measures visits with Analytics, the controller’s own statistics service, at analytics.frascella.dev: a service installed and run by the controller on their own server, not a third party’s. The script that measures visits is downloaded from that address; people signed in to the site’s panel as authors or administrators are not counted.
For every page viewed the browser sends the service: the page’s address (without parameters other than utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term and ref, and cleaned of email addresses and long numbers), the referring site (its domain name only), the time spent on the page and how far it was scrolled, clicks on links to other sites (the link’s address), file downloads (the file’s address) and the sending of the contact form (only that it happened: never what the fields contain).
From the request the service derives the type of device, the operating system and the browser (family and major version) and the country (two letters). The IP address is shortened before any use and never stored; to count a day’s visitors the service uses a code (a hash) computed with a key that changes every day and is then destroyed, so the same person cannot be recognised on different days. The site writes nothing in the browser: no cookies, no local storage.
Legal basis: the controller’s legitimate interest in knowing how the site is read (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), with data that does not identify visitors.
Retention and recipients
Statistics data is kept for 13 months and then deleted. Only the controller reads it, in aggregate: the service does not show the visits of any single person. It is not used for profiling or advertising, not combined with other data and not passed on to anyone.
Cookies
The site uses a single cookie, its own (frascella.dev’s) and technical, and only for someone who sends the form; so it asks for no consent and shows no banner (Art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code; Garante, cookie guidelines of 10 June 2021). The statistics use no cookies.

Whoever signs in to the administration panel also receives WordPress’s sign-in cookies; visitors do not.
What the site does not do
- It loads nothing from third-party sites: typefaces, scripts and images are served from this domain, and the statistics script from
analytics.frascella.dev, the controller’s own service. No advertising, no social buttons, no third-party videos or maps. - It uses no profiling or third-party cookies, and stores nothing else in the browser beyond the cookies listed above.
- It does not pass on or sell data to anyone.
The server
The site is hosted on an OVHcloud virtual private server (VPS) in the SBG6 region, in Strasbourg, France, and therefore in the European Union. OVHcloud provides the server; the data on it is managed by the controller.
Like every web server, it records the requests it receives in its access logs: IP address, page requested, date and time, browser. They are used for the site’s security (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), for nothing else, and are deleted after 7 days. The web server’s error messages, which can contain the IP address of a request, are kept for up to 14 days.
Rights of the data subject
Under Articles 15 to 22 GDPR the data subject can request access to the data concerning them, their rectification or erasure, the restriction of processing or a copy in a portable format, and can object to the processing. Requests can be sent to emanuele@frascella.dev or through the contact form. Under Art. 77 a complaint can be lodged with the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali), garanteprivacy.it.
